Alfalit International, Inc. is a Miami-based non-profit run mostly by volunteers that has changed the lives of more than SEVEN MILLION persons around the world by teaching them to read, write do simple math and take care of the environment.
Founded in 1961, Alfalit currently serves in 20 countries in Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America, and Europe; conducting programs in Portuguese, Spanish, English and Creole, and will soon expand their programs to Nigeria and French speaking African countries.
Alfalit conducts literacy, basic education, pre-school curriculums, as well as community development, health and disease (HIV/Cholera), nutrition, micro credit programs and environmental programs.
Alfalit has been recognized twice by UNESCO, including a First Prize for Literacy; at the 2006 White House Conference on Global Literacy, and the 2007 White House Conference on Latin American and Caribbean Literacy. And also matching dollar for dollar funding from USAID.
